For the past year, artist Alex Hirtzel has been visiting and studying the ‘Celtic Rainforests’ taking
inspiration from the book by Guy Shrubsole. She visited many of these glistening places in the rain
fall woods, where the shining eyes raindrops clings on the twigs and mosses, with the ever watchful
creatures creeping around.
She wishes to celebrate the rain which creates botanical richness, dampness, greenness, dark and
sogginess of this unique ecosystem deep in valley pockets in Wales, which are globally so very rare.
Alex uses augmented reality on some of her paintings to create a unique experience filtered through Instagram.
Alex has been artist in residence at the Bristol University Botanic Gardens, Royal Park in London and in October 2024 will be at the National Honey Show. She has exhibited on numerous occasions internationally and nationally including most recently at the V&A for Birdlife International.
