Binding books using different methods and in many forms is Carole's passion.
Each of her sketchbooks and journals are individually hand stitched using traditional techniques and artist quality papers. Many have hand stitched headbands, reinforced corners and ribbon place markers. She is developing a range of books using the more unusual bindings: Buttonhole binding, adds an extra layer of interest by revealing the concealed signatures inside the spine whilst still maintaining the integrity of the book, ’Coptic’ and ‘sewn boards’ techniques add extra qualities to the finished book such as being able to lay flat on a table.
Carole's designs of cover papers are silkscreen printed, by hand, to create numerous unique sheets. By using multiple colour combinations nearly every finished book is one of a kind. Recent new patterns for cover decoration have been inspired both by traditional Japanese motifs and natural objects such as shells.
