Elizabeth Haines has lived and worked in Pembrokeshire for 50 years. Originally trained as an illustrator, she gradually evolved a much more flexible and imaginative way of working, a more oblique evocation of landscape and the natural world. Her inspiration often comes from poetry and music, but working constantly in sketchbooks keeps a tenuous but deeply rooted connection with the natural world.
She has been Artist in Residence at the National Eisteddfod and has a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Wales, Lampeter. Her thesis, The Web of Exchange, explores the relationship between the different arts. Her work is in the collections of the Contemporary Art Society for Wales, The National Library and the University of Wales.
