Howard Lewis

Howard Lewis' Woodland Lady' is joining the Five Women at Found exhibition She is carved from spalted beech. Howard's intention was to work with the natural surface and contours of the tree, to carve out a contrasting, two tone female form, that appeared very differently when viewed from opposite angles. The shaping of the feminine curves & contours, in relation to the surface of the wood, seemed like a natural evolution and Howard believes was pre-ordained, because the beech is apparently known as the queen tree, and sometimes referred to as "The Mother of the Woods".
