Muriel was born in Brecon and grew up on a farm locally. She studied Photojournalism at Swansea Metropolitan University followed by an MA in Documentary Photography at the University of South Wales, Newport in 2015. Muriel previously trained as a counsellor and has worked with people in a variety of challenging arenas; her photographic work and studies focus predominately on her love of people and their connection to the land. For the project ‘Breaking Glass’ Muriel has set out to investigate the role of women in farming and the agriculture sector. Women play a major role in agriculture, participating in the full range of farming activities, many balancing this with having paid employment. Muriel is interested in whether the contribution of rural women is given the recognition it deserves and whether their voices are adequately heard.
