Framed watercolour & crayon.
At school Stewart was very bad at maths - he had the habit of trying to work things out in his head and then putting down an answer - a frequent comment was “where are the workings?”
As an artist, trying to give shape to his experience of the world there is no definitive answer - the paintings in this exhibition are the workings. They seem particularly resonant of this odd time!
Born in Glasgow, Stewart graduated in 1977 from Glasgow school of Art.
He studied for an MA in European Fine Art in the Barcelona studios of Winchester School of Art, graduating in 1994.
He lives and works in Hay on Wye.
