Lydia Latham is a green wood worker living on the edge of Snowdonia. Using traditional hand tools, she creates intricate, artistic and functional works. Lydia’s precision Kohlrosing skills have made her well known in woodworking circles. This is a particularly delicate process following the more physical axing and knife carving steps of making a wooden piece, whereby fine line drawings are transferred to the work through parting grain and applying a dye.
Lydia has been refining her spoon carving skills for over a decade. Prior to this journey, she received a BA(Hons) from the Manchester School of Art in Embroidery. Her background in fine art, and her particular love of fine line drawing, have been transferred to the medium of wood and spoon carving.
As well as creating a variety of wooden products, Lydia is an experienced teacher, and regularly runs workshops to teach both fundamental spoon carving techniques and design as well as more advanced Kohlrosing knife work and finishing.
