I spent much of my early childhood in Africa and the Middle East before moving to Brecon and later Llandrindod Wells in my teens.
After college I became a social worker working with older people and in mental health all my career, ending as team manager before redundancy in 2011. The Monday after I left work I went to one of Niel Bally's courses as a deliberate reset of my life to focus again on painting. Until then I had worked mostly in pen and wash but now tried oils then acrylics which I find fast and responsive to quick changes. Under Niel’s guidance I have also tried monoprinting and airbrushing, both of which allow creativity in the work, leading in unknown directions until finished.
