For some time, my work has incorporated geometry and systems. This is partly about finding a structure to hang painting on. This ongoing series has taken a square and divided it into two or four identical wedge like parts. These have then been reassembled to make several different forms. One of my aims was to try and convey the movement of one form transitioning into another. Then by the overlay of the same shape I came across the octagonal star form which happens to be a global and well-known virtuous sign. It is incorporated into many architectural designs, rugs, textiles, jewellery, ceramics, flags and heraldry found across the world and especially in the middle east and historic Armenia.
The centre fold across the octagonal shape suggested an open book with blank pages. This then led to thoughts about content, such as an atlas turning the pages of history. Using narrative in this way is quite new for me. One thing leads to another.
