Having completed a degree in Zoology I hankered for fifty years after the idea of having some formal art tuition; I finally took the plunge and went to Niel Bally’s classes at Art Courses Wales.
Painting satisfies my need for a challenge; it heightens my appreciation of light and form. Chance is an important element in my work. The paintings evolve and I have little idea of how they will end up. Colour and light are important and I am interested in how colour dissolves from being something tangible to disappearing into a near white haze. I am astonished by the vast range of pigments that result from the mixing of the primary colours and how adjacent colours affect each other. I want to be able to create an image that delights.
