Ken Dukes studied at Swansea College of Art and at Birmingham Polytechnic and was elected a member of The Welsh Group in 1981.
The landscape has always been important as a motif for Ken since he started painting as a teenager, in Wales. He has made landscape paintings from countries as diverse as Wales, Australia, Bangladesh and South West France (where he has a studio). He responds to the pared-down landscape of Winter which suits a minimalist palette and an emphasis on the horizontal. He also appreciates the French Summer and the burgeoning landscape of Aquitaine with its dense woodlands set against fields of Colza, Sunflowers and geometric planting of Poplars.
