As my practice as a maker of wooden tableware has grown more in demand, working with superbly creative restaurants around the UK, I found myself doing less of what brought me to green woodworking - the simple connection with nature and the ability to carve a spoon from fresh wood using only a few simple tools.
The discipline of pushing my mind and hands into making a new form every week for a year has pushed my carving skills forward but also helped create an internal balance - learning that sitting in the woods carving a simple utility object is something to celebrate, something to seek out in an otherwise busy life making from wood.
