Since moving to South Wales in 1982 Janet's work has primarily been inspired by the Welsh landscape. She has explored on foot with her sketchbook for many years, taking notes to use and interpret when returning to her studio, not always knowing what direction that may take - very much like many of her walks.
Essentially she uses mixed media; drawing materials, collage, acrylic and oil paint often all in the same work. Poetry is important and inspirational to Janet and she states that the late Irish priest / poet John O' Donahue expresses her practice so eloquently;
"I often feel that there is a world, maybe an infinite world of dream, hidden at the heart of a mountain, and that maybe part of the duty of the artist is in a certain sense to excavate the secret dream world of the mountain in an imaginary way"
