Simon Royer:
Cachalot: Sperm Whale 875 Dark
A new venture by artist Simon Royer into hand-made lifelike models of whales.
Simon says “I read Moby Dick a short while ago. I guess that was the initial spark to create a life-like model of this fascinating giant beast that eats squid from the dark depths of the ocean. These whales have a unique body shape with a very large head and toothed mouth which somehow looks quite odd and you wonder how it gets about. It was quite challenging to achieve an aesthetic looking finish. Each whale has unique individual body scars.”
In order to give the whales a more realistic appearance, the whales have many coats of paint and mediums to give the skin a more life-like finish.
Simon Royer is based at Penpont, west of Brecon and welcomes commissions.
As an artist his fine art paintings depict accurately realistic representations of birds and sea life as well as the ethereal, atmospheric quality of beach scenes. More often than not all of Royer’s works contain a story, whether it be an illustration of the Darwinian concept of survival, a visual exploration of the behavioural habits of certain species or a critique of mankind’s depletion of the planet’s natural resources, his interest and concern with the environment is overriding.
Royer’s intuitive portrayal of his subject matter and the striking vitality apparent in all his artworks has brought him many admirers and collectors.
Royer has had exhibitions in London, Denver and Brighton and has works hanging in both private and corporate collections worldwide.
