Coming in from the East
Tuesday 18th October – Saturday 18th November
In this show we are welcoming contemporary artist Sue Vaughan Williams to Found Gallery. With roots in the Sussex Downs and South Wales Sue’s paintings reflect and are inspired by the desert and colour of North Africa, the comfort of her home in Norfolk, along with the damage and joy of man and machine. Oil paint is her preferred medium to express and document the world as she sees and feels it.
Sue is joined by photographer and cinematographer Richard Greatrex who is showing his series of combination photographs entitled ‘Only Japan’ – a set of contemporary photographs borrowing traditional art forms and telling stories. The images use the tools of cinematography and reflect a two month journey across Japan, following the appearance of the cherry blossom...hanami... from Kagoshima in the south to Sapporo in the north. The images combine some of the traditional art forms that he also saw on his travels.
Coming in From The East also welcomes potter Pamela Thorby, wearable art jewellery by multi media artist Helyne Jennings, majestic pieces by master woodcarver Chris Pye and textiles by Jennie Jackson along with Geishas in mosaic by Maureen Richardson. Hay on Wye based jeweller Chrissie Nash is also joining the show. Woodturner Faye Lavery Griffiths is kicking off the seasonal feel with charming wooden Christmas decorations.
