Our first show of 2024 coincides with Brecon Women's Festival. Showing work by artists Janet Foster, Anne Bosset & Kate Freeman.
Janet is Chairman of The Brecknock Art Society and lives in Llanfrynach. She has always been involved in the creative arts. Janet paints bold and imaginative landscapes and still life in acrylic, oil and watercolours.
Anne Bosset taught art and design for a number of years before becoming a full time painter, dividing her time between Brecon and a small town in the south west of France. Anne uses water colour and acrylic on a textured base made from tissue paper or handmade papers and then use multiple layers of transparent paint in order to create the impression of variations of atmosphere. Kate’s vibrant works bring together her focus on colour relationships and the ‘happy accidents’ which happen when painting.
We have introduced a new potter and a new ceramicist to Found: Anne Seymour from west Wales who makes beautifully decorated hand built and thrown pottery and her sister Jane Seymour who lives in Ireland. Jane makes slab-built bowls and forms, with surface decoration inspired by her interest in birdlife and the human form. She draws and engraves directly onto the surface of the unfired clay, applying layers of oxides and stains which are re-applied between firings.
In our lower gallery we have 'Dark Spring' by John Crerar; this is a photographic landscape project that was shot in the countryside and along the coast near Newport, Gwent during the Spring months of 2020 and 2021. The series is a deeply personal artistic response to the threat that confronted us with Covid at that time while also bearing testimony to the cycle of renewal and hope that nature will always provide with the advent of Spring.
